Living with Code: Art imitating Life

Food imitating Bear

Everything is code. Everything is some kind of language we can define ourselves by or make clear what we want or do or make. It can explain so much very clearly , like mathematics or even knitting comes in codes like k2tog or yo. Even us crafters live and breathe in code. Codes are fun, it can be a total mystery to people who do not know the code at all , kind of like a secret language. Now, how much fun is that!
So today I thought, like I promised last week, to add a new code to your craft library : that of the QR code. You see QR codes all over the place, like tags on posters, at the supermarket, on adds, everywhere. They look like little pieces of artwork and in a sense they are, but at the same time these little specks of black and white, organised in a specific pattern, gives information for a huge amount of data.

QR code , an abbreviation for quick response code, is a type of matrix barcode first designed for the automotive industry. It has become very popular because it can be read fast and has a huge storage capacity compared to other barcodes. In China QR codes have been printed on train tickets since 2009 for example ! Now QR codes are being tested for “virtual store” formats especially in South Korea and Argentina.
If you want to read more on QR codes please go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_code

When you knit your QR code , make sure you use two contrasting colours, crochet also works ofcourse, just make your stitches very defined so your phone can read the code clearly ! Have FUN !

QR code of the text RABBITS RULE! it's almost as if tere is a little rabbit jumping up in the corner in this QR code..lol

the QR code of this website you can see at the bottom of this weeks blog. Scan it with your phone and it will take you directly to www.ixchelbunny.blogspot.com so in a way you can create this as a tag on anything you want and ofcourse you can make your own qr code with texts, phone nrs, website address anything right here: http://qrcode.kaywa.com/ try it ! it is fun !

To make your own qr code just go to the qr code generator listed above and type in whatever information you want to be in the qr code, then you transpose it onto a grid and presto! There you have your own qr code knitting chart and you are ready to intarsia yourself some code !

Tag your yarnbombing with your own qr code !

or better still: make the QR code the yarn bomb artwork !

This week has been filled with lots of dyeing and knitting. For no real apparent reason my right knee decided to give up on me and dislocated on me, so I have to take it a bit easy on the spinning side of things…which is really hard when you are addicted to spinning ! I do have some lovely soft yarns for you on offer today: a blend of mink, angora, merino and silk! It is a 3ply with amazing meterage/yardage and so soft ! and then there is the new blend I call Bunny Magic Tops: angorino (= 70% superfine merino and 5% angora) with magical glitz(25%)! It spins up like a dream and has a fabulous three dimensional magical depth and glow to it ! So have fun snaffling and creating ! Enjoy!
