The pressure of gift giving for some can be too much. No, not for me, I love giving gifts and packaging them up and setting up a tree and every year I look forward to December…..only to forget that my DH is terrifyingly stressed out beyond belief by the whole schlemozzle…and then to think he can’t even relax AFTER Christmas because well, my birthday is just days after Christmas..tomorrow to be exact. The pressure!!!!
When I was a kid any party attempt was thwarted, because of the fact that everybody was away for the holidays or just so over festivities, that it just never worked.
Also, You never really get presents for your birthday when it is so close to Christmas..no, you get one if you are lucky ….a combined xmas/birthday pressie…..not a happy camper.
And believe me, it just did not get better after I left school and went to Uni..same deal…or when I started working? …Nope..never..
It just never got any better nor did the people around me get it (apart from some amazingly empathic souls who understood my plight)……
So, after a gazillion attempts to celebrate the day I opened my eyes and took my first breath on this earth, I made the decision today no less, the day before D-day, that it will be best for all involved not to celebrate my birthday ever , ever again…(DH will thank me for taking the pressure off and him having to go shopping..there, you are off the hook).
I will remain..ahem…39+ forever….lol…and I think that may be the best pressie ever… although defying logic because let’s face it, we do get older by the minute….
No, instead I will just celebrate every single day as if it was my birthday, carpe diem as they say, and have as much fun as I possibly can and just do not wait til that one “special day” to do something I like to do or hope I get given something I always wanted…
From now on..every day can be my birthday and in a way, when you think about it, it is like that for everybody because we all get older every hour and every day. In a way it is extremely logic. Why celebrate it only once a year?
It doesn’t happen with small babies? No, their age is not measured in years! No, their age is measured in days and weeks first and then months: Jamie is 18 months now! (=that is 1 year and a half….) or better still…Amy is 36months ..That is 3 years! ....
At what point do we stop counting age by weeks or months and the years kick in?? I wonder?! It’s probably a mouthful to say one is 13359 days, 2028 weeks or 468 months old…lol Well, not for me anymore! I am regressing, going back in time so to speak…
From now on I don’t count my age in years anymore or celebrate my birthday every year…I will , in fact, just stop counting and voila!! : Goodbye pressure, goodbye expectations, goodbye ever growing birthday cake to accommodate the candles to blow out (not that I ever had one of those ..lol…but I can imagine that the older you get, the bigger it has to become ..).
So.....Bye Bye Birthday ! (that doesn''t mean I can't have cake though...it only means I can have cake any day I like....lol)
