The last big show of this year is almost there! The Black and Coloured Wool show on Sunday the 29th of September at the Cranbourne Public Hall (cnr of South Gippsland Highway and Clarendon street) starting at 9.30am.
Being only a couple of months after the Bendigo Show where I was cleaned out, it was a huge enterprise to get fluff ready and blended and dyed. Ofcourse I always think I do not have enough and want to have as much as possible at these fabulous shows to showcase what we as a small Australian Fibre farm can offer spinners, felters and weavers and give them to opportunity to “wooldive” ..lol..
There are going to be our IxCheL old time favourite blends there ofcourse, like the Gaga bunny tops, the Lush Bunny tops, the Cashmere flings and magic bunny tops just to name a few! And there will be sock yarns, 3 ply angora and cashmere and mink yarns as well !and then some every exciting new blends like the Wicked tops, the Alpaca angora tops and ofcourse the Grand First Ever Introduction of an All Australian organic Sustainable blend: the Happy Tigerbunny Tops , the first ever ! a blend with the wonderful hemp fibre that is amazing to work with. This exclusive blend will have its first outing at the Show next Sunday so please, come down and have a cuddle and be amazed at the natural colours in the blend and the hand dyed ones. Next week, these Happy TigerBunny Tops will land on this blog with all the information and how this adventure started.
This Week I am offering you a very special blend as well: the Bunny Bison Bliss tops. Bison is a down fibre much like Yak only more magical and soft and super special. It is a rare fibre with a lot of history attached to it and when I had to opportunity to get my hands on some more Bison I couldn’t help myself and blend some up. The Bison is dark brown and the baby camel in the blend is a caramel colour, so in this blend you see little streaks going through in various different colours. I believe that this makes this blend extra special.
When you dye pure white fibres your colours will pop and be bright and a lot of dyers prefer a white base. Me, being a rebel, I love dyeing on natural coloured bases : it somehow created this deep, dimensional colour sensation you cannot possibly create with just plain white. So my philosophy in making up all these blends, whether it be this bunny bison bliss blend or the happy tiger tops or the magic bunny tops for that matter , is to put together a base that will give it either texture or dimension or both. Spinning a yarn from that kind of blend will not only give you a unique opportunity to experience different kinds of fibres and how they interact, but also create the most amazing one of a kind yarn or felt you can imagine. So, enjoy this weeks update and remember: your imagination is the only limit to what you can create! Have fun !!!
the Malcolm Fielding Dervish support spindle (Dymondwood and osage orange) and
the natural Bunny Bison Bliss tops seem to be made for each other: both absolutely magical.
