Bendigo 2015 and New Adventures

I was absent from blog land for very good reasons last Friday: it was the Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show! I think it was the busiest, most hectic and fibery inspiring Bendigo EVER! I have never felt so rushed off my feet than last Friday when the fibre fans descended on the flower shed at the show and started snaffling and cuddling fibres. It was awesome ! and busy! VERY busy!
Here are some snapshots of the show for those who did not make it or for those who did and want to reminisce

On the Thursday I was so tired it totally ignited my funny bone…as soon as I saw that the organizers were sticking some “safety pay attention tape to the entrance for OH&S purposes... Emma from Spun Out strategically lay on the floor and I drew a chalk line around her to mark the fibre crime scene…it was too funny ..lol…there were several fibre and Yarn Snaffle victims but Peter was the winner with his yarn and wearing a kilt. Who could resist taking a photo of that crime scene eh?

not to worry , Peter was fine and received resuscitating hugs  and life saving yarn therapy

Then on Saturday I saw the Leader of the opposition , Bill Shorten, with his family visiting the show and actually stopping at my stall ! Ofcourse I could not help myself and started politically speaking for the rabbits: “get us calici and myxo protection and vaccines now!..lol…and it appears that the pure angora bunny fibre that I sell and which is packaged with bunny ears was welcomed with great enthusiasm by the Shorten family. On the label it says “ fluffy bunny fibre to be hugged and cuddled and called George” ..Daughter George(tte) thought that was awesome and had to take the bunny fluff home with her. George is awesome !

The Bendigo show was full on, filled to the brim with laughter and hugs and heaps of enabling!
Also, as like every year for the last ten years I have been part of this amazing show, I have a raffle: everybody spending a certain amount will get a ticket to fill out and enters in a rafle to win fibery fun prizes!

This year the winners of the Bendigo 2015 IxCHeL raffle are: DRUMROLLLLLLL!!!!!!!

The winner of a huge fibery fluffy prize pack ! is : Bev Foley From Queensland !!! Congratulations!

The Winner of a sock yarn club for three months worth over $100 is …..Natasha Thomas! Congrats !

The winner of the Fibre club membership august-sept is …..Kerryn Robinson ! Congratulations !

I drove back on the Sunday evening after packing up with the amazing help of Fiona and Peter (All Hail to the best packer uppers EVER!!!) and started dyeing and prepping the July club fibres and batts. It never NEVER stops..lol

This year , as you know , I am focussing on the rare breeds and this blog update is all about another sign up of a rare sheep breed adventure.

New Rare Sheep Breed Adventure Sign UP

This new adventure is all about the Swiss cutest sheep : the Valais Blacknose! I had a few tops at the Bendigo show but they sold out in no time so I just have to organize and do some more won’t I?

This adventure sign up is for all of you who have missed out and for those of you who want to desperately cuddle some of those cute sheep in fibre form. I will offer you tops and batts.

These lovelies hail from Switzerland and I will combine their fibre with some lovely super soft fibres. Their fleece is not normally close to skin wear, but as I keep telling people, blending a coarser fleece with angora and cashmere and doing some blending magic: it will be soft enough to wear close to skin or very good socks !! Ofcourse a high micon sheeps fleece will not compare to super fine 13 micron merino or pure cashmere or angora, but every fibre has its purpose and every fibre can be blended to change the overall use. Everything has value, everything can be used and loved and cuddled.

Here are some photos and inspiration mood board pictures on which the dyeing process will be based. You can also opt for the natural tops if you like.

The blend will consist of:

Valais Blacknose
Eco merino
Silver Angelina
Glitz
Angora
Cashmere

The tops weigh 100+g and are $25
Or you can sign up to receive a batt weighing around 150grams for $36.

The Rare Shep Breed Adventure tops and batts will be shipped out mid of September and on my ravelry group it will be part of the Mythical Magical Spin A Long for the month October ! It is going to be awesome FUN !!!

Sign ups start today and because there is only a very limited amount I can blend and prepare there is a limit to the quantity.
All I can say is that the last rare sheep breed adventure sold out in about 2 hours….

Email or message me on ravelry or facebook to sign up and be part of this awesome mythical magical rare sheep breed adventure.

The inspiration for this adventure  is from Switzerland : it’s beauty and cheese and fairytales and history. This time I couldn’t resist to base it on a story from the Gruyuere region: a woman who apparently had magical powers and yes…changed into a hare for a day to hop around the pastures and have fun: Catillon the Witch. More info on her and the beautiful gruyere region in Switzerland right here: http://www.la-gruyere.ch/en/contes-legendes.html

The Pre Bendigo Tornado

It is Friday, that means IxcHeL update day ofcourse , the start of the weekend and ! the fact that it is SIX days before the Bendigo Show 2015 kicks off !!!!

Some people have told me they wold love to see my home a week before the biggest show of the year. Can I just say…no you don’t..it is utter and sheer chaos..it’s a Fibery TORNADO…lol..there is fluff hanging drying everywhere.
I can honestly say there are only 3 places where there is not any fuff: the bathroom, the bedroom and the kitchen… it is madness!
There is still so much to do and this year more than anything I feel like I am so far behind ! I still have so much to do and finish! Like I said : madness..well..a fluffy madness.
The thing is, if you would let me ..I would even add more to my list because I have so many ideas of blends and fibery magic still to do. Nevermind, that is what the rest of the year is for…lol

I am also surprised I am still standing. This last month was like a marathon in more ways than one: working close to 18 hours a day to get things ready is not an understatement. I have not seen the light of day..no really ! Vampire central..lol…

Love Rules

At this moment in time, the one thing that is paramount to me and what I keep putting on the top of my list is: Love and Compassion. It is hard to forget the essence of Life when being bombarded by hatred, news, bloodshed and grief and loss.

However, when you look at the big picture and what really , really matters in life it is not the Drama.it is not the pettiness of entitlement, it is not the fear nor hate nor is it the heart ache. At the end of the day, the things that make our lives worthwhile are the way we express ourselves with Love and Compassion and Joy. It is listening to great music and spinning that wonderful colourful yarn with our hands and creating life and creating Beauty. Not that other stuff. Forget about what the media and other people thrust upon us with a vengeance: the rating increase they think they will get when creating Drama. It is a Devil in disguise detracting us from what really matters. So at the end of the day, after all the drama …think about what ethically matters to you. I will give you MY answer: Love and Compassion. Think how you would like to be treated and treat others likeWISE (emphasis on wise…lol).
I am becoming a Fibre Zombie…laughing hysterically at things for no reason and working very very hard. The Bendigo show is the biggest show of the year. This year however has been huge!!! I ahev been doing my rare sheep breed belnds, my adventures in fibre, trying to support the farm and keeping all the things going. My work days consist of animal husbandry to product management to production to pr to selling and designing. I have not had a day off. My idea of a time off is having a bath. Welcome to my world….lol insert hysterical laugh…lol… I am grateful for my sense of humour ….lol
Also, Today a dear friend lost her girlfriend to a battle with the cancer demon. You are in my heart and mind today Frances O’Meara. May you rest in Peace and may all of you who are holding her in their hearts, find Peace and Love. Big hugs ! The Bunny cloud is in your friends honour  Raelene

The studio is slowly but surely filling up with tubs and bags filled with fibery treasures for the biggest show in Australia : the Bendigo Sheep and wool show starting on the 17th of July.

There is still a lot more to do ! and I am not even talking about the clubs that need to be sent out in July when I am hopping around in Queensland straight after the Bendigo show. It is, yes, totally mental ! lol..

And now for something completely different: the Tour de France is almost starting ! July 4th !! And that means only one thing well, two..eh..no three..no wait …oh whatever.lol .it means fun ! and Tour the Fleece !!!
Check my Ravely group ( see linkie : http://www.ravelry.com/groups/ixchelbunny-fibre-and-yarn    ) there is heaps of spinning and sharing and at the end of it all a Mountain of prizes to be won !!! now, I ask you, why wouldn’t you want to join the team IxCheL Bunny ?!!!! C’mon still time to sign in to join the IxCHeL bunny Tour de Fleece team and do some serious stash diving to get your Tour fibre together.

I have been asked all kinds of questions in regards to who , what or when or with what and what is allowed in this Tour e Fleece…so to make it all easier for everybody I will repeat the "rules" here :

 1. Anybody is more than welcome to join as long as they adhere to the following IxCHeL Rav group rules: there will be no bullying, disagreeing, talking behind backs (pm to any group members to back stab or do negative things to others), no backstabbing, no snobbery ! It has come to my attention that this has been happening in heaps of other groups and if we allow that kind of terrible behaviour , it will mean that a great forum will die. No way ! I will not let that happen in my group, so that means that:

2. Yes you can spin with anything you want! Yeah !!  It does not have to be a phang or spindle my husband Paul aka Lair of the Bearded Dragon makes. I do not care what type of spindle , nor should anybody else! We  love ALL spindles in our group and ALL wheels. They are beautiful works of art. No bullying by anybody will be tolerated ! If you are a fan of a certain maker and do not like seeing what others love to spin on…please join another group…If I even get a whiff of a disagree button being pushed on any photo there will be grave repercussions. The IxCHeL group is a tolerant happy fun safe place to do your craft, how and with what makes you happy !!

3. I would prefer you spin up your IxCHeL fibres , I am sure you can get your hands on some if you don’t have any. However small our farm is, I sell to anybody and I am very accessible : just pm me : I am always happy to enable ! Even if it is just a bit of bunny fibre you can add to your Tour de Fleece project that comes from our farm, that would be nice !

4. Yes, there is a mountain challenge: meaning that around july 23rd when the athletic boys in lycra are sweating away to get to the top of the mountain and maybe back down again , we are very sympathetic and do our bit. This year I thought it would be nice to make a “mountain yarn”. Now you can interpret that anyway you like: spin a slubby yarn!, spin a yarn in the colours of a mountain, make a mountain art yarn ! Anything goes! Yes, you can spin little rocks in your yarn if you like !

5. Post photos of your inspirational Tour de Fleece journey ! posts with photos will go in the running at the end of the Tour to win a huge amount of prizes.

6. Join the IxCHeL Tour de Fleece  team and have fun!
