Time to Celebrate !

Happy New Year everybody!!! I have had a week off and surprise surprise I did not finish reading every book on my list but hey, I read 4 and did somethings I normally do not do a lot of: baking cookies, knitting cute stuff for me, lounging about watching movies and cleaning up the studio ! I am over the moon that I did that because the unorganized clutter just did my head in. I organized all the craft and art supplies, all the different glitter and threads and fabrics in the studio. I always, well in 90% of the cases, organize all the fibre and yarns for the business side of things, but it is the organization of all the other craft things that get overlooked. You know “ I will do that later when I have some time”- kinda thing. Also when it comes to my personal art stuff, I procrastinate. I know it’s just not me alone, it’s probably in the genes of everybody who does crafts and art. We try, think about it, think about it some more, then get distracted and bam! : back to square one. One thing I am grateful for is that I apparently, after the clean up, do not have THAT much stuff ! Surprise! It was just my way of eh let’s call it “creative organizing” that made it look and feel that I was a hoarder and sometimes had to step over things to get to where I wanted to go. Thankfully I never got to the point I would not find what I was looking for and bought it ..again. One: because it is super expensive to live that way and two: then you have to “organize” two things…it’s a never ending story really. No more ! My desk is clean (which helps when I do my drawing, designing and painting), my pigments are organized, my fabrics are precut and ready to assemble and embroider; all the machinery is clean and ready to receive sessions of fibres to make into batts and tops, my studio feels serene and workable. Now I just have to do that to my wardrobe …what do they say again> If you don’t wear it for a year it means you have to throw it away. Lucky for me I do not buy that many clothes or make that many for myself, but djeez I KNOW there are some outfits in my closet that would transport me straight back to the 90s..lol You know what? I’ll do that next week….maybe lol

The reason I said Maybe, is of course that work is I full swing again and the clubs and updates need doing as well as the farm work and new projects and fibre adventures. I need to find a way to at least do some. Let’s call it “non work” every week. I need that. My life needs that. I have really been struggling last year with the work load, the constant drive to get things done and ready. I love what I do and I would not trade it for anything else mind you, but it is the other “stuff” that started to get to me. You know the social media side of things. I am sure I am not the only introvert who feels that way. You know, the constant pressure of “being out there” and at the same time feeling that it would be so much “safer in your cave”. Unfortunately, it is hard to survive in a cave, by yourself with no income..lol I need to find a, yes there is the word…balance. Who knew I ever would even dare to say that word, seeing I seem to survive on constant chaos…..oh well.

So yeah, I had a week off, although now, it feels like a couple of days really….but beggers can’t be chosers I guess….. One thing that I have promised myself, after some highly explosive situations I found myself in last year, is that I am not going to stress out about anything. Yes, you heard me say it so it must be true…lol No stress!! Especially no stress about stuff or other people. I have to really come to grips with the fact all the time that I am different and be done with it. As an empath and an introvert, (a brilliant combo I must say, which drives me loopy at the best of times!) it is my New Years resolution ! to not stress about things..any things ! Which I could put into action immediately on the first day of the year when a big dead tree branch from the side of the road hit our car WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN OUR DRIVE! See! You do not need to go ANYWHERE to have something impact (pardon the pun) or make a dent (yes again, pardon the pun) on your day. The car still drives but it has a substantial dent in the bonnet , which made me think “ I could have gone in to the city and party!” for that money I now have to spend on fixing the car. The irony….

On this “holiday” there also has been a lot of planning..Plannig of new adventures (and taking action), planning on doing more painting and art (which I miss doing on a regular basis), planning and calculating new yarn blends BUT I did not organize a website (I am still procrastinating about that one and will see if I can win the “Guiness world record” on that one since I have been thinking about doing a website now for over 12 years..LOL I win I think….pathetic but true. Maybe another New Years wish I can make? WEBSITE! Fingers crossed!

This last week has been filled with custom orders and dyeing again and I am straight back in the saddle it seems. Lots more to do though ! Next week for example there is some very exciting STUFF happening : ADVENTURE TIME again !!! yes !!!!! I am not saying what but it has everything to do with a lot of super cute rare breed of sheep ! Soul Crafting

It’s been a rollercoaster ride again this week, trying to get everything packed and finished and shipped. But I have made it ! Today is my last “workday” so to speak of this year (If I keep saying that to myself I will believe it and finally get some much needed rest…lol) I was very close to losing my mental and physical health after pulling an allnighter with some , let’s say, complications, and I have come out the other side feeling more clear than ever. Sometimes things like that need to happen I guess to come to a certain realization of ones perception and reality.

Cookies have already been made and eaten, I might add, so the next thing on my list is to make some gingerbread men and a house because I have never done that in my life, so I have to try that ! I have already started reading “Virgins” by Diana Gabaldon and almost finished that and on to the next one. Embroidery adventures have started (Home is where the yarn is- you can see that on my Instagram page) with more on the horizon and there are some very lazy crafting days on the couch planned too. Sounds like a perfect end of a hectic and difficult year to me !



What are you planning to do for the last days of 2017? And do you have any mantras for 2018? I know I do! I am planning to go on new adventures and revisit old ones. Although I have been painting and dyeing with fibre, I have not really had ANY time to spare to indulge in drawing and painting apart from a short stroll during Inktober. In 2018 that has to change. I enjoy working with ink and paint and paper and it felt really good exploring that side again in October.

I also want to impose a limit on myself: the limit of not stressing about what others think or do or how they react. This in view of social media and because everything I do is predominantly business/craft and income related , has really taken its’ toll on my sanity in 2017.

Too many times I have let people get under my skin and wreak havoc. No More! It is tough to create on its own but to stress oneself out with the constant question “am I good enough?” or hearing others say “there is so much competition out there!, look they have copied what you have done!” is making it even harder. I will not let these doubts enter my mind again nor will I make it harder by being my own worst enemy. The only person who can make your life better is yourself. Do not rely on others or other people’s opinions to do that for you. Know who your friends are by what they do not only by what they say and let it go.

Sometimes I forget. Sometimes I look past how strong and creative I can be, only to bring myself down by listening to others or to hear myself whispering damaging negativity in my own ear. I am extremely good at making things harder for myself I have found. So again, no more. 2018 will be the year of boundaries on one end and adventures on the other.

2017 has been a major negative cluster of energy sometimes and it is time to resist. Resist those negative feelings, habits, information streams, influences and instead start a revolution! Our own freedom from influences that inhibit our freedom of expression or adventure. So many positive things can happen when we speak out and when we speak up for ourselves. Movements like #MeToo (although started as a movement in 2009 I think but really made an impact as a hashtag movement via social media) have started to shift our perception and even our behaviour and the behaviour of others.

I will not  be complacent though, because it only takes a moment of not paying attention and I will be back in my old ways. Things can only change when we keep practicing. Just like a concert pianist practices their art continuously, we have to practice behaviour change or thinking pattern change.

So, Let 2018 be an Adventure, A positive Movement, Hope, Creativity and Strength to Change things for the better. Let us all be advocates for what we Love to do not only what we fight Against. Let’s dare to be different and don’t care what others think. Let's be Ourselves (coz  others have already been taken...).
 Let’s be Strong in our Beliefs and Compassionate towards others. Let’s Agree to disagree sometimes and feel liberated to Fight for what is right. Let’s Colour our Spirit and have wonderful new Adventures.

So, for the next week, I will be Soulcrafting and…..working together with Paul , making a new table for our kitchen with an amazing Red Box Timber Slab we found recently. I really want to experiment with some glow in the dark resin for that table!

Reading and Craft Lust

In the last two days I think I only got about 4 hours of sleep but it is all worth it ! I finished all the custom orders and shipped them off today ! Didn’t think it would happen, but this foreign idea of me taking “time off” for the last two weeks of December has somehow got me extremely excited !

Obviously it is not because I do not love what I do but there are a LOT of things that have taken the back seat, like spending time of finishing some embroidery projects, some knitting design ideas and patterns, some much needed cooking and baking AND, last but not least READING! My reading list ( I misspelt it as “lust” but in my case that is pretty much the same thing..reading list-reading lust…lol)

So, What have I got on my To Read list in the next few weeks?
I gathered the pile of books on my desk and I THINK I may be a bit ambitious but hey, better to try and fail than never to try at all I always say ..lol

I thought it might be fun to share the book list with you , so here they are- in no particular order-:

1. Knitting Fresh Brioche by Nancy Marchant I am really looking forward to sinking my teeth into this magical technique and Nancy is the Queen Of Brioche so I am in good hands 😉

 2. Alter Knit: Stitch Dictionary by Andrea Rangel If you are in love with intarsia work as much as I am , this book is a must read with heaps of fun charts and ideas

3. And talking about colourwork: How can I possibly NOT read and knit some Balls !!! 55 Christmas Balls to knit by Arne and Carlos After I get enough balls to fill the house, I will keep going with their latest fun book : Field Guide to Knitted Birds. If you do not know Arne and Carlos, please look them up and watch their YouTube tutorials and videos. They are an absolute treasure trove and adorable as well.

4. I am debating starting to dissect this book first and foremost since I have a huge love for all things Japanese, including Japanese knitting. I LOVE ‘Knitted socks East and West by Judy Summer, so when I saw that there was a Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible by Hitomi Shida coming out in November 2017 I immediately bought it. Safe to say I have not had time to try any stitches out but I glanced at the charts and the ideas and this book is awesome !!!

5. As a lover of rare breeds and especially those hailing from Scotland, there is a book on my list that combines both: “Patterns for North Ronaldsay yarn by Elizabeth Lovick and Elly Doyle. There are some awesome patterns in there that are just right for my handspun North Ronaldsay yarn so I am going to dive right in !

6. Connected to Scotland for sure is something not really knitting related but close….I have two books here that I have not had a chance to read yet by the one and only Diana Gabaldon: “Virgins” about a young Jamie Fraser and Ian Murray ! and “seven stones to stand or fall” (a collection of outlander short stories). It’s a good thing I am a fast reader because I am itching to start reading these two bookd and hope that her next novel is not far away !

7. This brings me to my other love: history and embroidery combined : “18th century embroidery techniques” by Gail Marsh. So much to learn and lust after (see , there is that word again…lust…lol) This book is an absolute treasure by the way! I keep going back to this even when I combine my weaving commissions with the request of embroidery. Great techniques and so much more to explore.

8. Another love: Sashiko embroidery. I want to explore more templates and make my own patterns up on my hand dyed indigo fabrics. If you would like to get started with Sashiko, which is the most amazing meditative embroidery of all in my humble opinion, please read “the Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook” by Susan Briscoe.

9. An Amigurumi project I NEED to finish ! Paul the toadstool by Lalylala. If you love crochet and amigurumi and super cute things, please have a look at this awesome designer. She also has a bunny addition to the dolls !


On my political/philosophical keeping up to date  and to read list are also some other must reads like:

Science in the Soul-writings of a passionate Rationalist - by Richard Dawkins

What happened by Hillary Clinton and

Our Revolution by Bernie Sanders, maybe followed by the new tome by Keith Olbermann “Trump is a F ….” But I will only include these three books when my stress thermometer is so low it needs a bit of igniting….lol

I have not even included the magazines I am so far behind with it’s not funny like Vav magasinet (my favourite weaving magazine) and Inspirations (an embroidery mag). No spinning mags, I have pretty much kept up to date with them.

So yeah, pretty excited about doing other things than commission spinning and weaving and dyeing for the last few weeks of the year. There are still some dyeing days ahead of me next week but that is it! I can’t believe I am actually going to do this… but , I think I need to take a breather, recharge the batteries and slow down, before I go loopy or fall on my face, whichever option comes first.

What also got me thinking was the fact that my immediate genepool is not particularly fantastic. Both my parents died when they were not even close to hitting 70. My grandpa died when he was 42, but that doesn’t count because I am sure that German Death camps are not genetic;  my grandma lived until she was 88. So I hope I take after her.
Whatever happens, I am now more than halfway the age my parents were when they left this planet. I know this sounds a bit morbid,  but that kind of realisation does make you think. Also, I still want to do so much and ..remember my reading list/lust?, so much to read and learn! So, I think it’s time. Time to make some time for the extra stuff that makes the fabric of life knit together. Less stress, more adventure. That doesn’t mean you have to travel to get it (although that is nice and amazing but a bit out of reach since we can hardly take our fluffy animals with us – unless we build an Ark....lol).

But, most of all , on this weeks update, I want to thank all of you who have been reading my blog; who have been watching what I do and supporting our little fibre farm; sending their love and encouragement throughout the year (which in all truth has been a difficult one) and who have stood by me and have taken the time to keep in touch. I am a terrible person at keeping in touch because all my breathing and living time per day seems to be taken up by doing fibre, craft and business stuff. So , thank you so much for your understanding of my inner introverted fluffy hermit life.  Thank you for putting up with  me. Thank you all for being you and following my adventures.
