The times they are a changing...

This last week I haven’t really been on the computer at all: it’s all been filled with dyeing and spinning and going to the Warragul craft group .
So no facebooking, ravelry-ing , flickering or tweeting, I can’t say I have not pinned anything on pinterest either, but that’s just because I haven’t checked Pinterest out yet. Seeing so many pinning something somewhere virtual makes me kind of curious though, seeing that I have a habit in real life to keep little scraps of paper, photos , notes and out them all together. However, there’s only so much virtually you can do, so I refrained..

Which brings me to something completely different. I did watch the news and some news images were pinned in my head: WHOLE families lie slaughtered in Syria, rape and pillage continues in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where 5.5 million have died, the world averting its face since a war began in 1998, millions are unemployed in Europe, manufacturing jobs are collapsing in Australia … and what has us riveted in our Federal Parliament?
The Leader of the Opposition and his colleagues all but fall over themselves in a mad rush to escape voting in the House of Representatives, only one got lucky and escaped outside, one chose the wrong door which was already closed and well, Tony Abbott was just a teeny weeny bit too late…a farce really.
The other disturbing image was that of terrible racism rearing its ugly head in Ukraine soccer matches where the Euro games are going to be held this year. Nazi salutes, skin heads, violence….and,
in the US , Bob “the times they are a changing” Dylan receiving the Presidential medal of freedom….

Where are the writers and critics who prophecised with their pen? (oh yes, being outsourced..in ref to the Fairfax journalists losing their jobs because it is cheaper to employ journalists in New Zealand...) and where are we? Watching the block, master chef , the voice and a multitude of mindless blubber …pinning things virtually to walls that cannot crumble.

Anyway, you guessed it, Im obviously in a Bob Dylan mood..his lyrics still ring true today: listen to the Death of Emmett Hill (about racism ) listen to the hard times in New York (economics) , listen to Blowing in the wind…… My question i s "are the times a changing?… Hopefully yes, and hopefully for the better ! We can live our lives , we can speak our minds, we can do what we want to most of the time . There are so many choices, so many roads to travel: let’s make our road a colourful, happy, compassionate and thoughtful one.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'

(Bob Dylan, the times they are a changing)

I was shocked to see the Nazi-type salute at the soccer game. really shocked. Politics is just, well I have no words, I can't believe these people want to, or do, run the country. Our politicians here are about to get a 38% pay rise. Just because it flows on. They are arguing about how they will reject it, but no=one is agreeing. This is their second 40% payrise in recent memory. It's more than some people earn in a year.
Syria?? What is going on?They were in Iraq like a shot. Does Syria not have any oil???
