Happy St Patrick's Day !!!The grass is always greener on the other side, you always want what you can’t get…and when you have it, well, somehow it doesn’t seem that important anymore., because other things take over, like life and getting things done, work, life in general. It is like we are so eager to get happiness by acquiring things or doing things or trying to please. It is the pursuit of happiness ..always running to get there and when you get there, you realise that it was somehow the hunt for happiness, not the acquiring of it. What brought this on? Well,, as you know last week I was without internet or phone while having to organise heaps etc. I was totally going cold turkey not being able to do anything on the word wide web. Mind you , I had heaps of other things I coud have done instead of stress about it and getting angry , but I chose not to. I chose to be guided by that what I did not have. Stupid eh? So I ran around like a mad woman and lost valuable time finishing what I needed to do: custom spinning jobs and preparing lots of nhandspun and fibres for the shows coming up. Now, I knkow you can’t win. You can’t do everything at once, but this week, when I had all the electricity and phone lines and internet I wanted and needed so badly last week, I hardly used any of it. I was spinning yarn..spinning…and spinning…and spinning. I made a steampunk art yarn for a birthday present that Dr Stip commissioned me to do (see photo below) , I finished art yarns in all shapes and sizes (very exiting!) for Ok!Charli for her baby garment art works and more. Long days and nights of spinning ! and I enjoyed every second of it. I must say, making those art yarns I recognised a couple of things:
1. I am absolutely certain I will never ever want to become a watch maker!
Trying to disassemble old non functioning watches with all their teeny tiny,
wibbly wobbly , timey wimey bits and pieces is really not my cup of tea!
2. Boucle yarn looks absolutely awesome, but it is extreeeeeeemely time
consuming to get it done. Forst you have to spin very fine,, high ratio
singles, then you have to push the singles onto a very fine plying thread
spinning in the opposite direction and then, in order to lock the curls in,
you have to py it again with very fine thread.

Baby 2 Boucle yarnDoing all different art yarns does give you a sense of accomplishment and kind of gets you out of that brainwash spinning mode you can get in when you do your “normal”spinning..you know the spinning that your body and mind tell you to do because it is so natural to you. Like 4 or 8 ply. It is amazingly energising to do something else in between. It totally gives you a new perspective on spinning and, well, life in general.
By the way, apparently there was a spread in the Sunday Telegraph Sunday about our little fibre farm and bunnies, but since I did not get my hands on that Sydney paper here where I live, I have no idea what was in it..I will nag the photographer for copies of the photos.
Anyway, without keeping you too long: here is this weeks update! A new blend ! Again ! A gorgeous oatmeal blue faced leicester : a mesmerising silvery natural coloured sheep, blended with mulberry silk and angora bunny ! An awesome blend to spin and felt. I love the natural colours but with the base not being white, it also creates beautiful effects when dyeing !
Also some bamboo bunny blend sock weight yarn this week: one skein will do a pair of socks with its amazing yardage of 400meters per 100grams.

Tailspinning yarn Saturday 9th of June 10am-4pm $150Learn the spinning technique in a day. You can create your own tailspun super soft mohair curls (fibre provided!) or even angora ! anything goes! It’s exciting to create yarn like this ! aand now is your chance to learn!

Flower Power Art Yarns and Fancy Additions Tuesday June 19th 10-4pm $150
Learn how to make art yarns with your handspun that look like little flowers or beehives ! and how to add little bits and pieces, feathers, bling and more to your yarn to make it extra special !
