Last Sunday was a huge, fabulous, amazing day at the Black and Coloured Wool show at the Cranbourne Public Hall . Although I thought I didn’t have enough stock made up after Bendigo Show for this event, I was surprised that somehow I had big trouble fitting everything in my Tardis..so, maybe I was wrong thinking I had been slack OR the Tardis shrunk…lol

The Happy Tiger bunny tops were a big hit at the show and I was left with just a couple of natural tops ! More dyeing was needed this week, because I did promise all of you who would not be able to make it to the show last Sunday I would make it up to you. And, I will!

For something completely different.............
There is something else that I wish to share with you : people who saw me at the show and know me, noticed I was “hot”…literally/physically..lol…I was, I have been running a temperature for a long long time now and treatments were not helping at all. In short: I have not been well. I have not been well for 6 months and last Monday it was discovered when I got CT scans back that I will have to get “worked”on …again…

It won’t be anything I look particularly forward to since it involves poking around in my head. Don’t worry too much, I have done that for you already..lol…I don’t yet know if it is bad or just annoying, so until that time I will keep doing what I do. I have no set date of the poking yet, more tests need to be done and there are such things as waiting lists apparently....so, Im waiting...

On the Monday when I saw the doctor and got the results, it was as if I was hit with a brick and safe to say I was a bit off planet this week with emotions ranging from anger to sadness to total nervous wreck and back to my more or less realistic funny often sarcastic surreal humour to try and put everything into perspective.
I needed more time to collect my brain from the puddle on the ground where it had been dropped on Monday , slowly but surely I am getting there. I really wish I could have told you I won the lottery or was going on a cruise or something like that, but instead I opted to tell you what is going on in my life so there will be no speculations as to “why doesn’t she have the bunny spin ins twice a month anymore!!?”, and “please can I come visit with a busload of family members during the school holidays to cuddle bunnies? And I reply sweetly “sorry, not now”. ….

I will be fine, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. At the end of this one Im sure I will be Superwoman....lol

Apart from all of that, I realise one important thing: spinning yarn is an amazing healing force. I have experienced very bad things happening to me, from multiple miscarriages to cancer to childlesness and now this new "adventure".
In all of that turmoil, the one thing that seems to be able to centre me and heal my thoughts (maybe even heal physically through that maybe) is having fibre running through my hands onto a clockwise revolving spindle or wheel and create a yarn. It has to have something to do with the clockwise spinning motion, almost as if I was twirling a Tibetan prayer drum with the mantra Om mani padme hum while spinning yarn..esoteric as this may seem to say it, but spinning heals, calms and centres , even in times of utter stress and hardship. … Spinning makes you happy I am sure of that.

What also reminded me this week that there is something like the Force at work…I was thinking about a friends birthday pressie to drop off (didn’t want to visit as you can imagine my somber mood at that time wasn’t really good for anybody) and she called right at the moment I was thinking about her!…. Another friend-very annoyingly!- did not stop calling /texting me , keeping me out of my self inflicted cave of doom….thank you very annoying friend..lol….you know who you are!

Now for this weeks update special fibre blend: the happy Tiger tops. It is an all Australian grown andprocessed and blended and ofcourse handdyed here on the IxCHeL fibre farm.

Hemp has and still is put in the light of “addictive drugs”well, surprise surprise..it is an amazingly strong, beautiful, healthy, lustrous, fabulous plant fibre and is gorgeous to work with.

I have spun it on its own and in a blend if pure angora nd ofcourse did multiple tests on how this blend spins up: I am over the moon with it !

It creates a lustrous yarn that is anti bacterial, moisture absorbing, cool and light and is practically indestructible! I will be working on a sock blend for that reason: no need for nylon! Just add a certain % of hemp to your wool blend and voila! Sock heaven! That's for next year though, together with another special blend I am working on at the moment that will BLOW YOUR MIND in 2014!

 Other fibres in the Happy Tigerbunny Tops are Suri silk: this animal fibre is an amazing lush silky addition to any blend. It brings drape and shine and lustre. The Alpaca and Llama I added for its texture and air and softness.

Now why tiger tops? Well, this blend is not all white…every fibre in the blend has its colour: the suri silk is fawn, the alpaca is rose grey and the llama is brown and the hemp is pure honey.

I love dyeing on natural coloured bases : it somehow created this deep, dimensional colour sensation you cannot possibly create with just plain white. So my philosophy in making up all these blends, whether it be this bunny bison bliss blend or the happy tiger tops or the magic bunny tops for that matter , is to put together a base that will give it either texture or dimension or both. Spinning a yarn from that kind of blend will not only give you a unique opportunity to experience different kinds of fibres and how they interact, but also create the most amazing one of a kind yarn or felt you can imagine.
