After Jazz our bunny dog, went over the rainbow bridge three years ago, we have been thinking about another addition to the family, but never really got anywhere close to finding a perfect match. Jazz was a really hard act to follow.
On Monday, while I was browsing through the Animal Aid website I saw this amazing looking cat and I thought to go and meet her. On Wednesday I went and I think it was love at first sight..the cat was smoochy, loving and so cute and felt really at ease. So, we adopted her.
She is an older cat(6), a ragdoll (fluffy of course) and has been some pretty traumatic circumstances, which I only got to know when I signed the adoption papers. She was surrendered by her owners who had used her as a breeding cat her whole life. This time something had gone wrong though and when they brought her into the Animal Aid vet clinic she had already been in labour for more than a day. The vet saw that the babies had died already and had been dead for quite some time. There was no other option than to operate. At that point the owners said…they could not possibly take care of the cat anymore and surrendered her. Without going into total profanity here..but I think that is a bl..dy f….in' unbelievable act of (insert more swearing)….
Anyway, this cute kitty that weighs wayyyy too little for the breed she is (around 2.9 kilos instead of her normal 5kgs!) so what better place to come than our fibre farm where no doubt she will be adding on the calories as soon as she settles in. The settling in bit is a bit hard: she is very quiet, smoochy but shy and she obviously is still suffering from the trauma that she went through. More on “bunny” (yes that is her name) in future blogs.
Can I just add a rant (again..lol) : please please if you want a pet, only buy from reputable breeders, don’t go to backyard breeders! When you get a cat or a dog have it de-sexed! Please!!!! I cannot stress this enough. There are such an enormous amount of cats and dogs that are being surrendered or lost every day it does my head in. If you are a breeder: be a responsible one!!! Be compassionate and pay for the vet bills! Pay for good care! Be good for the animals you have. Don’t be an asshole..(oops sorry that one just crept in without me knowing…lol).
We are angora bunny breeders but we do not sell to the public. It is way too much of a high maintenance animal and there are way too many people out there who love them at first and then cannot keep them in top condition. We do not breed a doe more than once or twice tops in their life. We are here to take care of the animals and the land.
Okay, now I got that off my chest, for tonights’ update I have the DK weight/8ply yarn I promised you a week ago.
There are some amazing combos that you can put together for your fade shawls or the “rainy Avenue shawl” by Jeannie Kubrich which I just love (available on Ravelry for free ! Go check this awesome designer out ! Here is a photo of some of the oak galls and typo yarns together with some atomic blonde yarn (see offerings below).
Or, you can go for the fade shawl for example: here is the safflower yarn with some atomic blonde 😉
Here are all the offerings for tonight and please do not forget : the sign ups are open for the fibre, yarn and batt club starting in January 2018!
