It’s been another busy week. Especially the club dyeing took a bit longer than I counted on with all the natural pigments, glazing and overdyeing. This months artist and painting focus is on the Dutch Painter from the 15th century Jan van Eyck with his famous Arnolfini portrait and I wanted to not only incorporate the colours in it but also elements that you can see in the painting and it’s symbolism but also something part of the country that Jan van Eyck grew up in and a very ancient breed and I “stumbled” across the Mergelland sheep. An old Dutch heath sheep breed. Anyway, more on that in next week’s update once I can tell you more and show you more about the November club parcels after they have been shipped next Monday. I was asked to do a custom order of a yarn based on the Starry Night by van Gogh. I did this on fibre before but not really on a yarn base. I wanted to incorporate the swirls and the movement in the dyeing on the yarn instead of going for a self striping yarn or a speckled yarn, so, again, I did some experimenting and came up with a multi layering or glazing effect in two stages. First I dyed the black swirls..which I actually painted on and secured that layer by heat and setting it. Then it was a matter of painting the other colours on the yarn to reflect the magical painting by van Gogh. I am taking orders for this colourway on both my standard sock base (merino/nylon/silk, 100g/410meters/AU$29) and my silver star sock base (Merino/cashmere/nylon/silver Angelina, 100g/423meters/AU$32). More on that Starry Night yarn later in this blog with all the photos of the yarns. If you would like me to dye this colourway on fibre just email or message me with your wishes.

Then I started thinking this week that Christmas and Hanukkah are practically on our doorstep ! I know! Where has this year gone!
