Spinning Gold

All the clubs are dyed, all the artist information sheets and labels designed and printed. I was hoping that I could already ship some of the clubs out today, but the weather has been a bit on the wet side here and especially the yarn needed some extra drying time, so all the clubs will be braided, skeined , labelled, wrapped and packed over the weekend and shipped to all of the members on Monday.

This month was more challenging than I thought it would be colourwise. The artist of this month is Georgia O’Keeffe and the painting I chose was one of her Hawaiian adventures. The blue in that painting is not really blue, just as the purples are not really purple. It took me a while to figure out the colour pigment that was behind the imagery: it was almost as if she painted on a dusky, hazy soft pink purple base ! After that lightbulb moment the mixing and blending of all the pigments could start. It is quite an adventure trying to mimick the emotion, the colours and the imagery onto a totally different “canvas” : the wool and the yarn as a base will act totally different on how the colours will finally show themselves. It sure is an adventure! But a fun one!

Now , NEXT month's club is something totally different and will pose a lot of different fun  challenges ! But, more about that later !
Lots of spinning to do next week for custom orders and lots of dyeing and preparing new blends for the upcoming big shows. I REALLY wish I had more than 7 days in a week!
For tonight’s update I have some very soft hand dyed tops with some gold bling ! Brilliant to spin and wear. I have a few favourite colourways this week: one being the Rainforest Gold with its’ rich sensual greens and deep warm gold. I wonder what your favourites are !
