Another busy week here at the fibre farm. All the clubs were shipped on Tuesday (teaser photos below). I will post the photos of the March club, inspired by the painter Tamara de Lempicka early next week, to give all the club members a bit of time to get surprised !
Apart from a huge packing and shipping event, I had already prepped fibres for tonights update and this batch is absolutely amazing in its softness and shine! It spins like heaven ! It is a fabulous Blue Faced Leicester with a dash of bunny top but unlike last week where I gilled three different colour fleeces together, this batch has an all white base which makes the colours POP! The colourcombos vary from super bright to a show of natural dyes (indigo, woad and eucalypts too. Enjoy ! Again, this batch is a trial batch again and I wanted desperately to keep this separate from anything else because the micron count is exceptional at 19.56 micron for BFL. It feels as soft as 18micron or less when I added 5% of our angora bunny fleece to it. So grab it while you can: not a lot of this exceptional batch on offer !
The sign ups for the next round of clubs are open but only for another few weeks OR until they fill up! So, don’t wait too long and if you are already a member, it does not automatically renew , you just have to let me know by sending me an email or a direct message that you wish to renew your membership.
If you do not know a lot about the Blue Faced Leicester sheep, I have put some information on last weeks blog including a very interesting chat with Mr Stephenson from the Blue Faced Leicester Association. Here's the link: https://ixchelbunny.blogspot.com/2019/03/shiny-happy-sheep.html !
As for spinning Blue Faced Leicester: it has a gorgeous drape and shine, with a lustre and crimp that is fabulous. Because of the lustre the dyes take very well. It combines being a long wool type sheep fleece with a softness that normally is not associated with a long wool sheep breeds. It is strong as well which lends itself to socks extremely well ! The only downside is that it does not felt that easily. It will felt but you will have to put more elbow grease into it or get yourself an automated Gentle Roller (https://gentleroller.com.au)
