Botanical Dye Range Yarn

There is so much on the go, so many dye pots quietly bubbling away and so many yarns drying in every available spot available at the moment, I honestly have no idea where to start. I have been running around trying to get as much dyed as possible for the biggest yarn show in May (on theh 26th of May to be exact : see dates to put in your calendar section later in this blog) and I can see light at the end of the tunnel ! I only have about 15 kilos left to dye: some very special silver star yarns, cotton (NEW!) and then it is nothing else but spinning , spinning and more spinning of angora bunny, wallaby and some other special blends I have been preparing for the show! Of course that doesn’t mean that is everything, because the mountains of yarns to be tagged and labelled are growing ! Thankfully Paul aka Lair of the Bearded Dragon, helps me tremendously with that and packing everything up in giant tubs ready to be transported.
Oh and before I forget of course: the May Clubs are ready to be packed as well and shipped on Monday ! It is all happening !!! The last couple of days and nights have been loooong to say the least but last night I at least got to bed early (it was only 1am..I know! I know! But it is early in my book LOL).


Tonight I am offering you a preview of things to come at the Handknitters guild show on May 26th : a tiny selection of the Botanical dye range on the IxCHeL Sock yarn. There will be lots more available at the Handknitters Guild and next week there will be some other yarns on show as well as a previews on a totally different base AND a look at a new yarn excellent for colourwork ! Yes, it is all happening ! Exciting !

IxCHeL Sock fingering weight yarn

spun in Victoria and hand dyed right here on the IxCHeL farm using natural dyes and pigments as well as leaves, bark and roots. Natural dyeing and achieving this depth of colour and intricate patterning requires a lot more time than dyeing with acid dyes. It also requires the growing and harvesting and sometimes fermenting of the plant materials.

Two organically grown superior green tea leaves and a jasmine bud are plucked from the best quality tea bushes and mixed with delicately smelling jasmine blossoms, then sieved and hand rolled on bamboo trays, into small balls while the leaves are not quite dry. 

The leaf captures the fine jasmine aroma and releases it during brewing, giving a champagne coloured cup. 

 Brewing: 1-3 minutes 75-80degC , 

 4 pearls/cup, 

you can reinfuse 3-4 times so those 4 pearls last a looong time
