Crystal catching the last sunlight on our verandah

I am often asked what I have been up to ..and every single time I am lost for words. I have no idea wether to say “oh you know work”, because I feel what I do is not exactly work but in a way it is and also passion and love for what I do and all that kind of stuff. But yeah, “work’..and them they ask..well what else? And again, I am lost for words…because, well, apart from that thing I have to call work (because it puts food on the table) I don’t really do anything else. Boring right? I mean, I don’t go on nights on the town, or party , or go to the movies (unless it’s my birthday..lol) or generally ..I don’t really go out much. Like I said…boring! ..but then again I look at my life from another perspective. What I do or did never really fit into a box or a definition. Which made me think: I must not be the only one! Or well, maybe I am.

I think one of the reasons why I get asked “how do you get so much “work”done ??? comes from the misconception that my life consists of normal segmented parts of time: it doesn’t. I have 24 hours like everybody else, but what I fill them with is totally and almost exclusively filled with what you would call “work”. I don’t see it that way though. Again, it’s all perspective. I think, however way you look at it, I am different: I am an introvert, I am not a social butterfly, live in the middle of nowhere and I’m my own boss. I don’t feel bad or missing out of something. If I need something I can get it or call somebody. So yeah, I may not fit a mold. Even when I get asked “so what do you do ?” you know like put a label on myself…I have a hard time getting that one right. I am (and we all are) so many things! We are not our job title, we are not the one specific thing that we do, we are many. We are us. So In a way “profession” in our passports should really be obliterated and just replaced by our names: we are all who we are and we can fill it with anything we find useful, fulfilling and part of us. We can be a writer, a designer, a knitter, a weaver, an accountant, a dancer, a painter, a singer, musician, a collector, a botanist, a gardener, an astronomer, we can be all of those things and more. Let’s put it all in perspective and not put just one label on ourselves, because, you know, we are so much more than just one thing.

Talking about what we are: well I am desperately trying to get ready for a talk and a show tomorrow at the Victorian Feltmakers guild. As always, My time management was off, because, like the chaotic person I am without any perception of time whatsoever, I thought it was actually a week from now, and no, it is tomorrow. So there, I luckily checked on Tuesday, panicked, dyed a lot of pre felts and fibres and thought “OMG! I really need to get organized and get my act together!!!” But then again, I have been like me for the last century why change now? LOL
So, yeah, the Lady of the Unicorn inspired February clubs have all been dyed too! Which means I have spent about 3 full days in the dye room and then a bit more to get all the prefelts ready. Paul chuckled …I know! Evil right? But he knows me by now …still trying to get me to be more organized bit at the same tine realizing “it’s no use”..energiser bunny is at it again…lol For tonight I have some very Lush tops for you to cuddle up to (virtually) or snaffle so you can hug them in person ! Just so you know: All the tops I put up on this blog are available! I have received lots of questions this week from people asking if they could buy the tops even though they were not a member of the clubs: YES YOU CAN ! these weekly update are not part f the clubs they are available for everybody ! There is a limited supply though! All are handdyed and I do not have more than myself to help me dye the fibres. Just email me or message me and I will really get back to you personally and answer all your questions. Anything to enable you !

Blossoming Bunnies (by Kozyndan)

Another whirlwind of a week ! All the January clubs have been labelled, packed and shipped off on Tuesday, The orders went the day before and immediately I was back into dyeing mode with this update, custom orders and spinning and it was also bunny hairclip time so yeah, I was pretty ..eh..let’s say… energizer bunny..not only because of the workload but also because of some other ..let’s just call it “negativity stuff from the periphery” blurring reality.

I am still trying to get a grip on why ( or rather "what??!")   but I can tell you something that really helped me relax: after going to the post office to ship the gazillion parcels for the clubs, for the first time since we moved here (over 10 year ago now !!!) we visited the Blue Lotus Garden nursery and garden in Yarra Junction. http://www.bluelotusfarm.com.au/ We walked around, looked at all the gorgeous plants and yes, I saw a bunny ! (how could I not? I see bunnies everywhere..lol) and I felt so relaxed ! I am definitely going back there at least once a week to calm down and ..to paint and draw. What an inspiration !

BUt yeah, It is not easy to relax, but it helps not being so negative and instead immersing yourself with things you love doing! It makes such a difference to see the good rather than the bad things, although , I have to say, it’s a tough one sometimes..lol
 But, in the end, it makes a difference when you do anything, whether it be knitting or spinning or doing anything really! When you feel happy, your spinning or knitting will look different than when you are totally stressed out. Also, when you start knitting or spinning and you are not feeling well, how many of you have found that after a while you are starting to relax and you see that it makes a difference in your spinning or knitting? I would love to know!
This weekend I am dyeing the February clubs and it is going to be a lot of work getting the pigments just right ! here is the inspiration for the February Clubs: not a painting this time but the most amazing tapestry collection today: the Lady and the Unicorn ! The photo is the Tapestry with the Lady and the Unicorn “Sight”. Please read the mesmerizing novel by Tracey Chevalier about the Lady and the Unicorn, if you want to delve deeper into the history behind these beautiful pieces of work.
