It’s been a month now and I’m still waiting for results .....this time I called more than three times and every time they said they left a message on the specialists’desk to call me back….and ofcourse I got no call back...nothing..if the hospital was any closer I’d hop in my car and stalk them personally..I think it might be the only way to get results and at the same time tell them how enormously inconsiderate and unprofessional they are. Day trip planned for next Tuesday !
In the meantime I have been bashing the hell out of star pickets and other construction materials, because highly physical activity was the only way to keep my sanity and at the same time doing something constructive. Besides, the sun was out for three whole days and I couldn’t let that go to waste!
Oh by the way, Paul had a great time at his “footy camp” and apparently there are some damaging photos doing the rounds of all the guys partying and having a great time. It would be good to get my hands on at least one for the record (and future blackmailing possibilities..lol).
The veggie garden is looking amazing ! it is not finished yet, I still have to do the entrance and finishing touches but a huge deluge got in the way ..Hopefully it will stay a bit dry today so I can do more before the Bunny spin in tomorrow. I heard from a good friend that there were people expecting a total garden tour then so I better get to it !
I had some amazing help from Gerda on Tuesday who also brought me some very special seedlings to plant: curly kale or “boerekool”as it is called in the Netherlands and it is just an amazing vegetable for a stew ! YUM!
Two garden beds were completed on that day ! A huge thanks to Gerda for helping me out on Tuesday !!
All the seedlings were all planted the day after. Garden beds were filled with our wonderful bunny chook compost, or black gold as I call it, seedlings planted and mulched with yummy very nice smelling sugar cane mulch. I have left some room for more tomato seedlings, hot chilli plants and basil when they are ready.
Seedlings planted are: Tuscan Kale, curly kale, broccoli, celery, tomatoes, French beans, snow peas, broad beans, tsatsoy, pak choi, lettuces, cauliflower, purple pak choi, marigolds (or tagetes) (a great plant to protect against “bad insects”and get the “good”insects in ). Roses, lavender, hyssop, blue berries, strawberries, mexican orange bushes and thymes are going in next at the garden entrance and I am putting together a scarecrow in the shape of the Mad Hatter ;) It is looking magical already but I really want this area to look like an Alice in Wonderland Garden with nice little elements of wonder. A garden should be something that you love being in, the weeding and hard work you have to do will be much easier then . Raised garden beds and putting weedmats and mulch down not only protects the soil and highly diminishes the weeding you have to do, but it also looks good ! I have uploaded photos o f the veggie garden in progress shots on my photostream in the set Ixchel fibre farm , Here are some of the high lights :

and then there were three….raised beds
planting and mulching, I use sugar cane mulch on the beds and euca mulch on top of weedmat for the pathways. That way the euca mulch doesn’t deplete the soil of nutrients AND it stays in place much longer. A double guard against weeds !
the first garden bed all netted up and planted (except for spots left open for basil seedlings and chillies to go in and some capsicums) All is netted and I have added some trellising for the French beans and the snow peas.
weedmat almost down where it is needed, to be topped up with mulch and then the veggie garden wonderland entrance is waiting to take shape !
as if the weather knew all the seedlings were planted, it started to bucket down very very hard! The little yarra river almost burst over the morning after! It is a true waterworld here now but the all the seedlings are still alive and looking great!
