Things are picking up speed here…heaps of dyeing and carding and blending, getting the November clubs ready for shipping and … getting lots of new rare sheep breed adventures and new blends ready to roll in the new year !
My heart is getting better, my energy has started to stabilize and a good thing too, because as one thing gets better, another part of me goes down the drain…literally..lol
My suspicions of having a very "naughty" tooth root and nerve infection was confirmed by a scan and , oh joy! , the only option left to me was eviction of the tooth in question.
The only positive thing about it was that the procedure was not going to cost me an arm and a leg; and to be truthful, the dentist in Seville was by far the best dentist I ever went to. He calmed me down, explained everything very well and I was even given a set of stress “balls” to squeeze, that looked suspiciously like little people dressed as doctors. This was great, because normally I just delve my fingernails into my hand, which alleviates the pain the dentist is inflicting, but at the same time leaves my hands in bruises and occasionally, blood. Yes, I am a self destructing super hero in a dentist chair…..lol
So, how come I have this fear of dentists? Well I tell you: my dad, bless his soul, was even more scared than I was and equally blessed with a set of very bad teeth. So much so, that I have witnessed and was actually asked as a 10 year old, to help him with his tooth problems…not that I knew that at that time of course, but bear with me…..
”eh honey!’, he said, “can you give me a hand?”. So, I hopped over, innocently not suspecting anything clearly horrific about to take place.
“ Can you pull the door shut, really really fast and hard? Oh, and sing a song very loudly while you are doing it!”
No way, did I realise that he had attached his failing top tooth with a string to the doorknob and I was to perform my first operation. I started singing “you ain’t nothing but a hound dog! Cryin’ all the time!....” (because at that time I was a huge Elvis fan and felt (even then) I was born out of time and rather be in the 50’s wearing petticoats). I locked both hands around the doorknob and I yanked the door shut so hard, it felt I shook the whole house. It was at that time when I heard the most blood curdling YELL coming from the other side of the door.
Scared that I did something wrong , I opened the door, making matters worse I guess, because the door hit my dad on the head while he was doubled over in agony and holding this weird bloody thing on a string in his hand.
“Thanks honey!”, he lispely moaned and made his way to the kitchen to get some medicine (no doubt some gin or vodka…).
This whole incident could have given me many phobias:
1. fear of doors;
2. fear of door knobs;
3. fear of Rock’n’Roll…
but no, I obviously have been blessed by a terrifying fear of anything to do with teeth.
I can still remember that when I had to go to the dentist when I was a bit older and , obviously terrified, my dad said to me: “Hey! Do not be afraid, I will go with you!”, which I thought was a bit odd, because I did not think that he would set foot in a 10 mile radius of any dentist, but I was grateful that I would have someone to hold my hand while I was having a filling done. That way, I would not hurt my own hands, but could have his hands as a comfort and also his moral support.
I can still remember when we arrived at that front door. I opened the door to the waiting room and turned around and my dad said “See you later ! I will be waiting for you down the street! “ and off he ran… Safe to say, I faced the demon alone and came home with bloodied hands….i never told mum and I did not hold it against my dad, I knew how he felt....
Now I can hear you all say..”why, it does not hurt at all ! you get injections and feel numb…just relax”…yeah right ! Not where I was ! Back in the Neanderthal days where I hail from I did not get any anesthetic, the school dentist even accidentally plunged his sharp cleaning what you may call it into my cheek, when his assistant was distracting him talking about the design of the friggin window curtains. I never really recovered from that either…lol
Things only went from bad to worse when I was working in Mexico in the middle of nowhere, had a few severe root infections ( obviously my teeth genes are lousy) and had the pleasure to have them removed as if I was participating in a medieval re enactment at the local barber. Tell me again why I have a dental phobia.
Anyway, I am still here, a bit lighter (how much does a tooth weigh? Lol) and on a nice liquid diet with some fab anti biotics for the next couple of days. Hoorah !
Onwards !
Oh btw, I asked the dentist how much those dental implants or a dental bridge or whatever costs, because every time I notice how absolutely beautiful somebody else’s teeth are (not only Hollywood stars but you know, regular people who smile happily with their pearly whites) I see mine and think..”yeah…eh…not my teeth”…..lol
At the moment he told me the projected costs, I knew my pacemaker was doing a great job, because I did not immediately fall on the floor with heart failure: I honestly think that I either have to sell the house or that, when I am 80, I will have to puree everything I can get my hands on. Nevermind, I will keep on smiling, because at least my sense of humour never fails me. But, ENOUGH of my fabulous adventures in dental land !
The weather is getting hotter, we are fast approaching summer here and I think it is time for some cooooooool hand dyed cotton to sink your teeth into (pardon the pun!) for your next project.
These yarns are all spun right here in Australia and hand dyed by myself here on the farm, using either procion dyes or natural dyes grown or collected locally !

IxCHeL Buddhas tears tea
carefully packed and presented in a special organza gift bag
50g/ AU$19
Two organically grown superior green tea leaves and a jasmine bud are plucked from the best quality tea bushes and mixed with delicately smelling jasmine blossoms, then sieved and hand rolled on bamboo trays, into small balls while the leaves are not quite dry.
The leaf captures the fine jasmine aroma and releases it during brewing, giving a champagne coloured cup.
Brewing: 1-3 minutes 75-80degC ,
4 pearls/cup,
you can reinfuse 3-4 times so those 4 pearls last a looong time
Carefully handrolled tea
Enjoy the tea over and over again, by adding hot water again and again
