Get Cozy: the magic of Hygge

Lots has happened here ! clubs have shipped, lots of custom orders dyed and spun, lots of dyeing and blending done for this weeks update and also, lots of blending and pigment preps done for the August clubs (not to mention all te work behind the scenes for the big Hoptember IxCHeL Event....shhhhh...more on that soon !!!!! )!
 Just reading this and knowing how long doing everything by hand means, you must realise I hardly have had time to take a 5 minute break. It is super busy and hectic and trying to navigate around all the already very huge quarantine situations and restrictions in place in normal times here in Australia, these Pandemic times have taught me that me being an organized fibre organizer and fibre hoarder, has definitely proven to be a positive. Things may have changed by the time you read this..lololol

Again, I have no idea how I can possibly keep on doing what I do at this tempo and drive, but as long as I possibly can you can bet everything I will try to keep you cozy and enveloped in warm and fluffy fibres and yarns !!! I cannot thank all of you enough for your patience and love shown to what I have been doing for the last 16 years! If anything, being self employed in the craft business/small farm teaches you a lot, not least about being inventive and operating on the smell of an oily rag. We can do this! All of us! We just have to stick together and stay critical, compassionate and most of all : take care of ourselves,  keeping warm and cozy and making sure we can help others be that way too ! it’s all about HYGGE (more on that later ..lol) Onwards !


Hygge…now what is hygge? You may ask??? Well I could have also said ‘GEZELLIG”..which is a dutch word for hygge really and to this time I have no clue why the English language does not have a word describing this feeling of bliss, this coziness ! The word hygge comes from a Danish word meaning "to give courage, comfort, joy". Hygge stems from hyggja which means to think in Old Norse. Hygge is built from the Old Norse word hugr which later became the hug which means the soul, mind, consciousness. But it is also speculated that hygge might originate from the word hug. Hug comes from the 1560s word hugge, which means "to embrace". The word hugge is of unknown origin but is highly associated with an Old Norse term, hygga, which means "to comfort", which comes from the word hugr, meaning "mood". In turn, the word comes from the Germanic word hugyan, which is a cognate of the Old English hycgan, meaning "to think, consider". Collins English Dictionary named hygge the runner-up (after "Brexit") as word of the year in the UK in 2016 !!!! This followed a period during which several books focusing on hygge had been marketed in the UK, such as “The Little Book of Hygge” by Meik Wiking, “Hygge: The Danish Art of Happiness” by Marie Tourell Søderberg, and “The Book of Hygge: The Danish Art of Living Well” by Louisa Thomsen Brits.

Now, in these pandemic times, we could all do with a bit more “little happiness” and “coziness” and DEFINITELY !!! : a HUG!
