Mossy Soggy Farm meets Farmageddon

Helloooooo !!! I am so happy to be back after an eventful week ! Happy Friday ! I was well on my way to be ahead of the game dyeing my update and the June club when, all of a sudden I felt like the sky was falling down: On Wednesday June 8th we were well into our second day of deluge and I was just saying to Paul that we better get the Ark out (Measured about 260mm of water that had come down by that point in one day) when a sudden woooooosh gust of wind took out lots of trees together with ..yes, you guessed it: the electricity, the mobile towers and all telecommunications. Now, we are quite used to these kinds of thimgs happening here but this time it seemed more serious than before. It got especially , well, scary, when there was even no way to contact the sos unless we would light a fire and send smoke signals out. This situation lasted for a week. Mind you,m we are lucky !!! We have comne out of this unscathed and we got our power and mobile reception and internet back up after a week of wet and soggy isolation. There are people in the the Dandenong mountains that are not so lucky…they are still without power, cannot drink the town water and there have been lots and lots of huge trees that have come down , sometimes on houses.

We have a back up generator to keep the fridge and the water tank going together with some other little stuff, so we could not complain. We had our wood fire to keep us warm too. The one thing that I totally missed, even after so many covid lock downs , was the fact that this time (funnily enough just after the latest lock down was ending) this was REALLY a lock down with out ANY internet or phone whatsoever. It just goes to show how much we are all relying on contact with the outside world through the power of the internet and the phone.
It also meant that there was obviously no blog update so no income...and I would fall behind with the club dyeing...but I kept things going and tried not to stress out. No use doing that ....I did really dream of a nice hit bath at the end of that week though ! LOL

Anyway, we are still here. Although the whole place looked a bit like Farmageddon and a mossy bottom farm …squish squishy….and of course, I could not do any dyeing whatsoever. Candlelight can only get you so far mixing up colours and dyeing….lol I did however do lots and lots of spinning of angora blend yarns ! So keep an eye out for those in the next few weeks after they get a dye bath . So, for tonight’s update, I offer you a huge amount of IxCHeL sock yarns, hand dyed right here on the farm and spun in Victoria !

Also, don’t forget!: the club sign ups for the clubs starting in July are still open for sign ups !

If you would like to receive a surprise parcel every month that takes you on an art journey, where you discover new artists, their stories and their paintings, you also see my interpretation of their work of art into yarn and fibre. It’s exciting! It’s fun ! and it’s like a gift that keeps on giving ! Message or email me please to order or sign up for the clubs ! I am also taking custom orders.

Have a relaxing weekend!!
