Stay Magical !

A Magical Weekend to you all !!!

I’ve had my hot, hot bath after the adventurous week when I chatted to you last week Friday ( well. I had several hot baths to tell you the truth…lol) And then it was straight into getting all the clubs finished. I am happy to announce that early this week all the June clubs have been shipped off and teasers and photos will be posted on face book and Instagram. I have already posted a short movie of the gargantuan amount of club batts that were waiting to get packaged up. They looked so cute, all in a row , I could not resist. It gives a bit of surprise away, but not too much i hope  …lol    That video can be viewed if you go on to my facebook or Instagram account.

So what I have been up to after dyeing the June clubs last week? Well, lots of cleaning of the dye studio. Nota job I love doing but it has to be done....  After every big dye job (Every club I am dyeing about 20 to 30 kilos of fibre , not counting the extra rare fibres for the batts or all the yarns!) and there is a lot of pigment preparation as well. So to get everything for the next batch of dyeing ready, everything needs to be clean. Especially when it comes to natural dyeing, which takes a LOT of room to play with: eco printing, laying out, lots of splashing about (in a safe matter of course!).

So, It is with a lot of excitement that I can offer you our own absolutely beautiful Australian spun and grown yarn, botanically dyed with foraged or grown plants right here in Victoria !
The Lace yarn is a cashmerino yarn: Australian merino with Australian cashmere. I have been dyeing these yarns for years now and weaving , knitting and crocheting with them as well.
If you think that their 1200meters per 100grams is too fine for you, please think again! Not every lace yarn needs to be lace!
This yarn works up beautifully when held together in two or even 4 strands and they do not even have to be 4 strands of the same colour !
If you hold two strands of this lace weight yarn ( a 1ply weight) together , you get an equivalent weight of 3ply. Yes, this sounds funny, but in this case and in every case if holding two strands of yarn together to knit with : 1 + 1 does not equal 2 !
if you hold a 1 ply together in two strands it would be equal to a 3 ply weight; if you knit two strands of 4 ply together it will become a 9 or 10 ply weight. That makes holding 4 strands of this lace 1ply cashmerino yarn an approximate 6 ply. See what I mean?

If you are also a  weaver like me, life becomes so much more interesting when combining all different strands of yarn together. If you look closely at the woven fabric of say a Chanel jacket, you can see this theory plainly.

Or, in this case: my knitted ballet cross over top , which I knitted with two strands of cashmerino lace weight yarn in two different colours.
You have to remember when you hold two strands of yarn together, every now and again one will go in front of the other or visa versa. THAT makes for a very interesting knit fabric !

Here’s an example of that :

Apart from all things to knit, crochet or weave with this yarn, the cashmerino yarn is also excellent to ply your handspun single ply yarn OR use to autowrap your art yarns ! Yes, you do not necessarily need to ply your handspun single yarn on itself, you can ply it with thin threads as well  or even novelty yarn. Anything goes !

As you can see: there is no yarn that is more versatile than the Cashmerino on offer tonight ! Also, don’t forget!: the club sign ups for the clubs starting in July are only open for another week !!!!! Message or email me if you would like to join the club !

If you would like to receive a surprise parcel every month that takes you on an art journey, where you discover new artists, their stories and their paintings, you also see my interpretation of their work of art into yarn and fibre. It’s exciting! It’s fun ! and it’s like a gift that keeps on giving ! Message or email me please to order or sign up for the clubs ! I am also taking custom orders.

This is the last blog update of June ! How time flies !!!! Next Friday is the start of my RARE BREED MONTH ! Every Friday in the month of July there are going to be super exciting rare breed , hand dyed tops available, ranging from a spectacular  Russian sheep and  sea weed eating sheep from the Shetland Isles to ........ no......let me make that a surprise ! I will be exploring the breeds every week, telling you lots of history ad stories about them and the small communities they helped develop and nurture. I hope you will join me next month on lots of rare breed adventures.

Have a relaxing weekend!!

Please don't hesitate to contact me at any time if you have any questions okay? Always happy to enable. All my contact details are to be found at the end of this week’s blog entry.

Walnut, Acorn, Eucalyptus, Madder (Dyebath D) SOLD

Walnut, Acorn, Eucalyptus, Madder (Dyebath L) sold

Walnut, Acorn, Eucalyptus, Madder (Dyebath O, because I put an extra wash over it with Eucalypt, it created a really gorgeous warm desert orange glow) SOLD

Walnut, Acorn, Eucalyptus, Madder (Dyebath B, because I put an extra wash over it with Madder root exhaust, it created a really gorgeous dusky Bordeaux glow)
SOLD

Dyed with Henna Leaves

Dyed with Safflower ( this dyebath gave me a gorgeous buttercup yellow)

Dyed with Weld.
As I heard an incredibly insightful Irishman once say
“ A Rose is just a weed with a Marketing department”,
Weld is classified as a weed
(obviously this plant has no advertising budget whatsoever,
but it does give a gorgeous gold, dusky green!)
In my book it should definitely be considered as a plant
with a better classification than a “weed” …lol

Dyed with Pomegranate ( beautiful gold bronze colour!)

Dyed with homegrown Japanese Indigo, in a shibori style dye bath (resist dye) SOLD

Dyed with woad
(definitely one of my all time favourite plants to dye with!
It gives such an array of gorgeous blues:
from summer sky blue to this duck egg blue. )

Dyed with Hibiscus flowers
(a very romantic dusky colour.
I don’t know why it makes me think of scenes of
Jane Austin books, but this colour
transports me straight to “Pride and Prejudice” times …
Call me weird…lol)

Have a cozy weekend with lots of fibre and yarn play, laughs and love!!
