Going to your happy place

Happy Weekend !

Lots has been going on again her at the “fluffy funny farm”…lol All the November clubs have been shipped ! WOOOHOOOO! Giving you a sneak peek later in this blog.

Lots of custom spinning done as well and heaps of dyeing . I have watched another movie (long overdue: : “Ma Rainey's Black Bottom” with the amazing Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis. Both performances are OUT OF THIS WORLD! What a screenplay and I can just imagine what the original play must have been like to see in person.
I had the privilege to watch one of my absolute fav actors (Derek Jacobi) performing in the play “ Breaking the code “ at the Royal Albert Hall in London WAYYYYYYYYYYY back in the late 1980s (later to become a movie where his part was played by Benedict Cumberbatch). The play “Breaking the Code” by Hugh Whitemore, about Alan Turing, was written with Jacobi specifically in mind.
Anyway, I digress….typical…. If you have not watched “Ma Raineys Black Bottom” , please do. It is a piece of art. The acting is superb and heartwrenching; the blues music absolutely awesome.

What else has been happening? Well, I had a dinner date with my best girl friend after months and months of not seeing one another, so that was super nice !
I had to take our van to the panel beater because of a ding , not my fault so not my bill to pay…lol and oh yeah, lots of reading while plying and spinning.

I finished reading two books : “Tidepool” by Nicole Wilson (a very nice debut novel set in Victorian times in a seaside spooky town..a bit of a spooky thriller with a twist). Lots of fun to read.
Then I finished “Read between the lines” by Rachel Lacey, a romance novel set in New York about two women finding true love in a bookshop, but that one (I felt at least) was a bit disappointing because the plot was so reminiscent of the movie “You got mail”…..
Now I am back into my more non fiction mode though, picking up in the middle of where I left off last week with “Weird Dinosaurs” by John Pickrell, an award winning journalist and former editor of the Australian Geographic magazine. Weird dinosaurs is about all the weird and wonderful new dino discoveries. This one will take me a bit longer not because it is non fiction, but because it is in paperback and it is so much harder to turn the pages while spinning yarn than turning pages on a kindle…lol

Here are some of the custom spun yarns I have spun and plied:

These customer orders were extremely special because some (like the vicuña) are fibres and fibre blends I will probably have a very hard time getting my hands on again. Finite, precious resources of rare breeds.
To custom spin these was a privilege and took a long, long time.
Each skein you see in the photos weighs about 50grams or more .
Here is the information per skein :
Vicuña blend :53 grams. 353 metres
Camel bunny silk cashmere dyed with Woad: 55grams. 220metres
Guanaco dyed with indigo: 2 skeins with 240 metres each💕
Black bunny skeins: 2 skeins total 479metres
Precious guanaco blend: 2 skeins total 459 metres.
I originally set out to ply all of them in one day but I gave up with two skeins to go
at 3am when my head almost hit the spinning wheel 🤣
so it took one and a half day of full on plying.
Spinning art yarn is so much faster 🤣

Here is a sneak peek of the November Club batt club in the making. I will post photos of the fibre and yarn and batt club on Instagram and facebook next week. So, if you are not following me on those platforms yet, please do. You can find me there as ixchelbunny and IxCHeL Yarns and Fibres.

This weekend will all be about dyeing the December club which I really want to get shipped out before the end of November. May the weather gods bring me some sun shine please !!! drying fibre and yarn is so much easier when the sun shines !

Tonight’s update is all about two fabulous fluffy offerings: Blue Faced Leicester Cashmere and Silk tops and pure Mulberry Silk tops. Silk is amazing to spin as a single and then ply with. It gives the yarn drape and shine and that little bit of extra wow factor. Of course you can spin and ply it on its own as well, but I love plying two different fibre blends and colourways together too. Anything goes !

Shipping :  I am still working and mailing the parcels out fast as humanly possible :-) All orders received and paid for of the Friday updates, will be shipped first thing monday morning. We do daily post office runs (if necessary). The recent AusPost changes to parcel pickups from businesses therefore does not apply to us because WE deliver your parcel directly to our nearest AusPost hub.
Seeing that there are currently lots of Covid cases, especially in NSW ain VIC, there can be some AusPost sorting centres that do not have enough staff so there will be delays in getting the parcel to you. As soon as your parcel is shipped you will receive an automatic email from AusPost with the tracking number so you can see where your parcel is and the approximate ETA.
Overseas deliveries are highly impacted by the very low amount of planes out of Australia t the moment and the very high pressure on AuPost. Please be patient during these pandemic times. We do our utmost to keep everything running smoothly on our end and if you have any questions: please do not hesitate to ask. Always happy to help!

Stay safe!
Keep crafting !
Be Happy !
Stay Awesome !
