Reason's Greetings with plenty of Buns

It's Christmas and on this day I discovered that I am a magnet for huntsman spiders...I pulled out my Larousse Cookbook and ..dropped the heavy volume immediately on the bench after I saw a medium  sized huntsman spider{or as Paul called it a baby huntsman....yeah right..Paul is Australian.. He calls a tornado "a bit windy" }. Obviously the hairy monster {the spider not Paul} was trying to read up on the best way to create a gourmet dinner.  Luckily the spider was caught with his leg underneath the heavy volume of the cooking book and was unable to further scare the living daylights out of me by running at the speed of light up my arm...lucky me...
Paul came to the rescue with a plastic tub to release it back in the wild..{I made him walk a kilometer to make sure the spider didn't make it home before he did}..I did tell Paul "if there is one, there will be more"...but that was shrugged off and all was well with the world.....

Then just now, sitting in Pauls office I saw a wee black something poking out between the wall and the cornice..I knew exactly what that was: a gargantuan huntsman by the looks of his appendices, which he immediately retracted when I shone a light on him...I told Paul the dad of the baby huntsman had come to take revenge on me ..and Paul just laughed, poked a little pair of scissors in the general direction I told the monster was hiding and...KAPOW!!!!! there it was, escaping at the speed of light while I was screaming my head off, flying off in the opposite direction.  I know, I am squeemish when it comes to gargantuan and big hairy spiders! They are the only hairy thing I don't go up close to and want to cuddle....can't help it..anyway, I am now in my studio writing this blog, hopefully safe from the huntsman family trying to create my nightmare at christmas....

Well, coz yes it's Christmas !  Or if you are into celebrating the birthday of Isaac Newton: happy Reason's Greetings or Newtonmas. I hope you all had a fabulous relaxing day, opening presents, being with loved ones, relaxing or cooking ..doing whatever you want!!! That's the whole point of having a holiday isn't it?  
Well I certainly hope so because there's nothing worse than HAVING a to do something against your will...lol ! I have been so busy throughout the year doing all the clubs and rare sheep breed adventures, I hardly had any time to do something that I have always done: design garments and fibre art. So, apart from making a pavlova, which I've never done before!!! (i know!! That's  fit for capital punishment living in Australia and not having ever made one I'm sure...I escaped punishment!!! Phew) I cleaned up the studio, organised fleeces and fibre for a fresh start making more batts and...sat down and drew and drew ! I cannot tell you how good that felt even if it was only for a few hours . It seemed as soon as I resigned myself to some guiltless sitting down and relaxing, my brain went in design mode..and I'm smiling 😃.

I came to the conclusion that I had kept myself from doing things like that because "there wasn't enough time", or "other things needed doing more urgently" but in the meantime I was panicking and losing time left right and centre checking social media, my email, my messages...always feeling like the white rabbit with the pocket watch in hand shouting "I'm late! I'm late!", whereas I could've easily taken that hour to do something creative design-wise that was hiding in my brain wanting desperately to come out! I think it was that moment of clarity that came over me because a lot of the world was in holiday mode : there would be no emails to check or messages to answer..at least that's what I told my brain.
You know those photos you see appearing on Instagram or Facebook of a shack in the middle of the forest saying "if you were offered one million dollars to live here for a year without Internet or phone would you do it?".... Apparently there are specific holiday destinations you can book that specifically offer NO internet or wifi...just have time to centre and not stress about FOMO (fear of missing out) or FOGO (fear of going off line). I could easily do the year in a shack just as long as I can take my stash and craft tools with me together with pencil and paper, but is it that hard to condition ourselves to have the technology around and just use it when we need or want to? Or, is it like having a bar of chocolate in the pantry that just BEGS to be eaten...NOW! .. No use keeping it for later..we want everything NOW. Well, what about if NOW disappears :  the more we get distracted, the more we forget to make the NOW ourselves? Every second and every minute of it.  You don't need to go cold turkey in a cabin for a year, just take back some NOW for yourself, even if it's just for half an hour. a lot of things can be done in just that: lives can begin and end, dreams only take minutes and ideas can explode in matter of seconds.

A very happy Hoppy Christmas to you all !  Next week there will be an update that will be finger licking good with all kinds of different information about what is going to happen next year and I can tell you this much : there is some pretty exciting stuff going on !

Australian Wild Wallaby Fibre, Super fine fibre that will create a gorgeous halo in your spinning. 
Just blend a tiny bit with your other fibres on your hand carders and you will be amazed how much softer this fibre makes the blend. 
It has a gorgeous grey colour. It is short like possum fibre. Very nice to spin blended with other fibres: you only need a max of 10% and you will so notice the difference!

We have several families of Wallabies living in the bush near us and they often come down to graze. Every now and again you can find little clumps of their fibre here and there. It is just magical to work with.
