I would ask all of you “So, where have you been this week?” but I guess that would be a bit cruel at a time like this, where practically the whole world is being asked to stay at home. Apart from us introverts, who are pretty laid back about this whole situation of self isolating while this Corona Virus Pandemic is wreaking havoc all around us, I do hear from a lot of people that they are finding it very hard. Not only because they miss interacting with other people than those in their own house, missing their friends and families, their work mates. I also come across comments like “I really normally like staying home and doing my own thing, but now that I am TOLD to do it, it’s very hard”…lol Yeah, it’s kinda like saying to a child, you cannot touch the cookie jar let alone eat any cookies, and presto! All they can think about is….COOKIES!
Also, at times like this a good amount of common sense and critical thinking is extremely valuable.
It may surprise you, but just because something appears on the internet, does not make it correct or even right…lol
It’s time to think clearly and not go and wash your hands with bleach or hang over a boiling pan of water filled with hot chilli peppers or drink that chloroquine solution you put in your aquarium for your gold fish , because , let’s face it, if you do those things, you will be a winner of this years’ “Darwin Award”.
The Darwin Awards commemorate individuals who protect our gene pool by making the ultimate sacrifice of their own lives: by eliminating themselves in an extraordinarily idiotic manner, thereby improving our species' chance of long-term survival. In other words, they are cautionary tales about people who do themselves harm in really stupid ways, and in doing so, may significantly improve the gene pool by eliminating themselves from the human race. These individuals carry out disastrous plans that any average pre-teen knows are the result of a really bad idea.
The single-minded purpose and self-sacrifice of the winners, and the spectacular means by which they snuff themselves, make them candidates for the honor of winning a Darwin Award.
Don’t be a Darwin Award winner I’d say and
1. Do not go and lick a public toilet to prove you are invincible and cannot get any viral infection (Apparently an”influencer” did and now has Covid 19 and maybe some other nice little things he’ll notice later, if he is lucky enough to survive);
2. Listen Carefully and mostly, listen carefully to qualified medical staff. Listening to a “super genius on tv – you know who-“ say that Chloroquinine , an anti malaria drug , is perfect against this new corona virus (which it isn’t , it has not been proven and has not even been tested ) and you recollect buying something for your koi fish that has “something something Quinine” in the title and brew a nice tea for yourself and your husband…..not a good idea !!!
3. Sometimes stupidity and karma comes together as in this winner of the 2019 Darwin award title suggests : “Rhino Poacher Killed By Elephant And Eaten By Lions” or
4. And this is by far still the "funniest" example of total stupidity.....don;t do this at home kids..not even when you are bored: Here's the story that can make anybody whince (even an emergency nurse or doctor):
“A 20-year-old man arrived at the emergency room complaining of rectal pain. Abdominal films revealed a radiopaque object in the lower rectum. A spherical radiolucency was noted in the upper pole of the mass. Upon questioning, the patient said that he had been fooling around with a close friend. After stirring a batch of concrete mix, the patient laid on his back with his feet up the wall while his friend poured the slurry through a funnel into his rectum. Under general anesthesia, the mass was delivered without incident. Examination of the specimen revealed a perfect concrete cast of the rectum, measuring 12x7x5cm and weighing 275g. A layer of concrete was chipped off the upper part of the specimen revealing a white plastic ping-pong ball--the radiolucency observed in the abdominal x-ray. The cement was an attempt to retrieve a ping pong ball!!!!!
Blood alcohol level was negative.
The attending physician recommended a psychiatric consultation, but the patient declined.”
I know for all the nurses who are doing it very very tough right now, the last thing they need is any of this. So, stay home, spin or knit or weave, play with your cat or dog, play games (From personal experience I KNOW the Monopoly version of Game of Thrones can last you two weeks by itself…lol) or read a few books, exercise , go for a walk or a run (BY YOURSELF or with the people you share your house with because you are all in the same boat). And, most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!! Smile and laugh.
It’s really no use worrying or being extremely anxious about this whole situation, because there is nothing about this that you can control or change. EXCEPT; to stay home and enjoy yourself. It’s not rocket science. This is the time you can actually hibernate without having to feel guilty about it.
So, how am I coping? Well, apart from no shows, no markets and hardly any income, I am doing pretty okay. I have been doing the whole self sustainability thing for a while now and although we cannot produce everything, I can at least cook things from scratch and if need be, give myself a haircut….lol.
Paul and I have been working side by side for years now and have nurtured a fabulous sense of humour without killing each other , even when in closed quarters, so it’s all good. I am spinning and dyeing what I can, doing custom orders. The Bendigo Show organisers are saying they will see later and that the show as is, is still going ahead in July.. The AOC has cancelled the Tokyo olympics end of July.....Let's see what happens.... Liek I said, no use worrying, I can only do what I can control myself and do it as best I can.
It will get better. This virus, when we act responsibly, will die off eventually, especially if a vaccine is produced by the end of the year hopefully.
Will it be easy? Hell no. But, we are all in this together. It’s time we come to realise that if one person acts like a total idiot, it will have grave repercussions. So hopefully, this whole exercise of being “responsible adults” will mean humanity has a chance..i live in hope.
I have been busy dyeing some new Cashmere flings for you, because I thought, a fling would cheer lots of people up at the moment. This blend is so super soft and I have tweaked it a bit so it is even less resistable. Resistance is Futile, as the Borg would say.
Also, the sign ups for the Next round of IxCHeL clubs ends on March 31st, which is only a few days away. If you woud like to sign up, please let me know by sending me an email or a facebook or Instagram message. To receive a fluffy parcel with a surprise and some inspiration is THE BEST thing since sliced bread.
If there is anything I can do, message me. If you feel you want to chat or need help, anything..let me or your friends know! You are never alone. Make time for something special: Hug your fibre, hug your yarn, hug your knitting! You can rest assured that everything from our little fibre farm is carefully produced, blended, dyed and packed in house by yours truly. Everything delivered to your door and everything is made with love.
