True Love

Pick a colour Buttercup

It’s no use me telling you that it has been one of those busy weeks again as usual, but yeah..it has been busy days and nights again filled with dyeing and lots or prepping and carding PLUS a huge amount of time spent on the April Club dyeing and prepping.

With every club it is not only the artist and the painting that is pivotal for the colourway but also for the fibre choices! Because this month it is the amazing Beatrix Potter with her “Mice stitching Button holes” from her story : the tailor of Gloucester" (1902).

The colourway is coming up beautifully! All the yarns are dyed and so are all the fibres for the batts. The carding is all done for the fibre club as well and I am so over the moon to be able to offer a breed of sheep that will be featured who were the favourite of Beatrix Potter and so part of her life in the Lake District: Herdwick sheep, which I blended with some other English sheep breeds  and some other super fluffy and soft fibres. See, I always like to not only have the colours be inspired by the artist and their work but also the fibres.  more photos to come after the april clubs have shipped .

Anyway, that was the club. I was hoping all the clubs would be ready to be shipped out on Monday, but the weather has not been that sunny so I may need some more time to get it all dry and ready to ship, BUT it will be well before Easter !

Meantime, I have been also busy pyrographing some phangs support spindles and starting on Paul’s darning dragon eggs. I told you: A. I don’t sleep much B. I don’t go out ..lol Fast forward to tonight’s update : Tweed and not just any tweed! It’s my Princess Bride Tweed yarn range. Yes, I am a super fan of the fantastic book and the fabulous movie. Who isn’t???
What I love about this particular tweed is that it is super soft and has gorgeous colourful, contrasting speckles of pure natural wool in it. What normally happened when you see “Tweed yarn” offered is that the base of the yarn is a natural wool, which is then blended with an acrylic contrasting coloured nepp. That’s not how I roll I said! I want the yarn to be a base of natural wool and the contrast to be a natural fibre as well. The only way you can achieve that is to blend all the fibres, dyed already, and then spin it as a yarn. If you were to dye all the natural fibres together they would obviously all get the same colours. That is exactly why the big yarn companies are offering you naturaly fibres as a base with already dyed acrylic nepps as the colourful speckles and then dye the whole lot, because the nepps do not dye at all in the same way as the wool fibres as a base do.
Apart from the clubs and all the yarns and the pyrography, I have also been prepping all the luxury fibres like qiviut and soay and more to create lots of blends to come.
So many exciting things to come ! I always say: so much to do , so little time !!!

So what have I got ready for you on this April 2nd blog update?
